Best time to Visit British ColumbiaSummer is definitely the most popular time to visit British Columbia. Daytime temperatures in Vancouver average a very enjoyable 22 degrees Celsius. While the provinces hottest area, the Southern Okanagan, experiences temperatures in the 30’s on most days. Summer in BC sees the provincial parks come alive with nature lovers, the lakes and rivers with anglers, the mountains with hikers and mountain bikers, the woods with wild life and the roadsides with stalls selling fresh produce. Wherever British Columbia travel in summer takes you, try to make accommodation arrangements in advance.Temperatures through spring and fall are cooler than summer, but in many ways these are the prime travel periods. June and September are particularly lovely, as crowds are minimal and British Columbia wildlife is most active. The main draw of the winter months is skiing and snowboarding. Most ski resorts open long before Christmas, with Whistler/ Blackcomb open from early November. Winter temperatures along the coast remain relatively mild (only a couple times a year does snow fall in downtown Vancouver); Vancouver Island is also a popular winter destination for those from the eastern provinces. The interior and northern parts of British Columbia are completely different with the average daily winter temperature of minus 40 being quite common. In general, no matter what season you visit British Columbia, take layers of clothing to suit a variety of temperatures, and always have a windbreaker and raincoat handy.
