Fernie, British Columbia, located in the Elk Valley, is an outdoor enthusiast’s nirvana. Fernie has an abundance of activities waiting for you in both sun and snow. Stay in town and enjoy the "Griz Days" winter festival or put on your sunhat and discover Fernie through the heritage walking tour. Fernie is the starting point for a summer outdoor adventurer offering a number of hiking and mountain biking trails. Elk are occasionally spotted so keep your eyes peeled. For those that prefer water to land, Elk River offers excellent kayaking and river rafting. The fisherman won’t be left out here, as Elk River is a favored spot for fly-fishing.

When snow makes its first appearance in Fernie, snowboarders and skiers aren't far behind, carving through the famous Rocky Mountain powder. Try snowshoeing or snowmobiling throughout the valley, or for a completely different experience, see the sights from a dogsled. Over the last weekend in February, join Fernie as the town gets together to celebrate Griz Days. Enjoy a pancake breakfast; take part in the Original Canadian Street Hockey Tournament, and then head up to the Fernie Alpine resort to watch the torchlight parade and firework show.
