Recent media attention of Fernie, and in particular the winter edition of BC Magazine, continue to extol the virtues of this special place. More and more people are discovering Fernie everyday, enriching its unique and historic social fabric and contributing to community life.

The Fernie Mountain Bike Club was established about 10 years ago as a loose-knit group of riders who met every Wednesday for a ride.

On December 8, 1899, the Fernie Free Press reported that "a movement is on foot among the prominent ladies of the town to do something in the way of starting a public reading room in Fernie." The supporters secured a room in Farquharson's Hall, the Crowsnest Pass Coal Company paid all related expenses, and within a few months the dream of a reading room had become a reality. People could spend their evenings reading papers, magazines and writing letters in the facility, which shortly afterwards evolved into a full lending library.
